What If

Waking up in a state of fear that is not at all in alignment with the state of reverent gratitude that now permeates my waking hours, I realized the wise solution is to invite it to sit and allow it to speak.

Knowing I am the Queen of my kingdom(my physical body), I pronounce that it is invading my space, uninvited, and kindly but firmly ask that it reveal the purpose of its visit. Before it answers, I begin understanding that it is simply a messenger with a job to do, sent by a force that will demand proof of successful delivery and we are now sitting at a welcoming table where only truth prevails and is tolerated, and therefore I am under no threat and neither is it; we are on neutral ground.

“What is the meaning of your visit,” I ask.

“My name is” What-If”, it answers, sheepishly as if new to the game and quite shocked to be engaging in a civil conversation.

I am suddenly struck by a mix of deep understanding and a sense of wonder over the fact that this fear is not at all the terrifying beast that twists my gut and pushes my panic button rendering me semi-paralyzed. It is simply a messenger bot that has been deployed to upset my beautiful apple cart.

I now see a vision of its intent to serve as a distraction. As I figuratively trip and bend trying to put all my apples back, more messenger bots swoop in to kick me down as the apples continue rolling and I am in potentially endless pursuit.

We sip our tea, fear and me, and blink in solemn understanding before I proclaim checkmate and speak three words.

NOT TODAY, SATAN!

Not ever.
